Through the generous donation of one of our members, Tom McGovern, the Community Service Committee has donated 4 printers to Lee Avenue School to supplement their IT capabilities.
Thank you to committee chairs Nick and Chris Mirro for their ongoing efforts to encourage smiles and giving in the community.
The holiday season is a time to support the families in our community who are less fortunate. With help from Lee Avenue School, we were able to adopt nine families. We were able to bring cheer this holiday season to fourteen children.
Thank you to all the members who sent in donations and a special thank you to the Simonello Family (Lorraine & Jennifer), who in honor of their father (a Past Board Member) and through Jennifer’s work company, The Plaza Marine Group, also donated toys for each child. Thank you for your generous donation.
I want to thank my daughter, Michelle Humann, for helping me shop this year and my husband Nick for helping me with the endless wrapping.
The staff at Lee Avenue School were taken aback by the amount of gifts received, and couldn’t thank us enough.
The holiday season is a time to support the families in our community who are less fortunate. With help from Lee Ave School, the HGCA was able to provide a Thanksgiving dinner and much more to three families. A generous gift card was presented to each family to help them fill their pantries and table with food for the holiday season.
Thank you to all our members who sent in donations, especially the Simonello family for their continuous generous donation that provided enough food for one family.
NOTE: Our October General Meeting had guest speakers who will be on the November ballot for positions in the Town of Oyster Bay. Hicksville Gardens Civic Association DOES NOT endorse any particular candidate for office. We, as a local civic association, present candidates with a forum to share their ideas and to answer questions from the Hicksville community. The statements made by the candidates and presented in these forums are the candidates’ own and not an endorsement by us.
Invitations to attend our Meet-the-Candidates forum were extended to both the Republican and Democratic Town of Oyster Bay Election Committees. The Republicans responded that their candidates could not attend due to previous commitments, and asked if there was an alternative date for them to attend. Unfortunately, we were unable to secure our venue for another date as there were other events already scheduled.
Here are the candidates for Town of
Oyster Bay

After 2 years of getting rained out, the annual Memorial Day Parade was on, and the community was blessed with a crisp morning. The HGCA proudly marched as some flag runners handed out the stars and stripes to spectators.
The Flag Committee would like to thank Nassau County Legislator Rose Marie Walker for donating the flags and our volunteers who placed flags in front of every house in our Hicksville Garden Civic Association area.
A special thank you to Hicksville High School Robotics Team (Ms. Temp and the J-Birds), Girl Scout Troops 3181, 3551 and 3361, our Jr. Firefighters, and Hicksville Congress of Teachers; Kyrstin Stehle,
Andrea Ferrara, Stefanie Cristina, Alison Silvestri, Laura Fanelli, Lia DiPaola, Jessica Ficke, Andrea
McAuley, Margaret Congero, Amanda Mayr, and Ryan Safonte, for helping our Civic honor the men and
women who died while serving our country on this American holiday. A job well done.
At HGCA’s general meeting in May 2018, Supervisor Joe Saladino provided our membership an update on the Town of Oyster Bay, from a positive change in the town’s bond rating, to benefits of LED lighting and single-stream recycling programs, expectations on road paving, upgrades to parks around the Town, and of course status of the Hicksville Downtown Revitalization effort.
