Community Service Scholarship Awards
The recipient of the 1st Annual HGCA Scholarship Award was Joseph Fiore.
The Hicksville Gardens Civic Association Community Service Scholarships are awarded to a graduating high school seniors who
have demonstrated a commitment to improving Hicksville through participation in community service activities.

The recipients of the 2nd Annual HGCA Scholarship Awards were Nicholas Jao and James Harvey.
Nicholas Jao
Nicholas Jao is a graduate of Hicksville High School.

Nicholas has devoted hundreds of hours to our community through the
Boy Scouts of America, Natural Helpers, and Helping Hands.  You can
even see Nicholas shoveling the walks for his elderly neighbors after a
snowstorm!  He also enjoys sports as a member of the varsity soccer,
bowling and tennis clubs.

Nicholas plans to continue his education and become a veterinarian.
James Harvey
James Harvey is a graduate of Hicksville High School.

Jame has volunteered extensively for the United Cerebral Palsy program,
the Nassau Suffolk Autism Society of America, the Empowering Long
Island's Journey through Autism, and the Autism Speaks Walkathon.  
His passion and countless hours devoted to improving the lives of
children with special needs and his academic success in high school
make James a worthy recipient of our scholarship.

James plans on becoming a Special Education teacher.
Joseph Fiore
Joseph Fiore is a graduate of Kellenberg Memorial High School.

Some of Joe's achievements include membership in the National Honor
Society,  Varsity Captain for football and wrestling teams,  being a
Eucharistic Minister, volunteering for the Big Brother/Big Sister Program,
participating in Boy Scout food drives, collecting supplies for troops in
Iraq and being a baseball umpire.

Joe has accomplished all of this while maintaining a place on the Honor
Roll with a 3.7 GPA and is a truly deserving recipient of our scholarship
award.

The recipients of the 3rd Annual HGCA Scholarship Awards were Janice George, Joseph Marcus and Danielle Valentino.

Janice George
Janice George is a graduate of Hicksville High School.

Janice has worked as an American Red Cross volunteer, a motivational
leader at her church, and has supported many charitable organizations by
volunteering at food drives, coat drives, and walks.

Janice will be pursuing a career in medicine and wants to be a physician
so she can continue to provide needed services to all people.
Joseph Marcus
Joseph Marcus is a graduate of Hicksville High School.

Joseph has spent over 2,000 hours with the Boy Scouts collecting food,
working with the homeless and distributing flags on veteran’s graves.  
The culmination of his efforts was his Eagle Scout project where he
beautified the "Welcome to Hicksville" sign at Old Country Road and
Levittown Parkway.

Joseph will be pursuing a career in graphic design, marketing and
advertising.
Danielle Valentino
Danielle Valentino is a graduate of Hicksville High School.

Danielle has volunteered as a Special Olympics group leader, tutored
middle and high school students, assisted with fund raising for the PTA
and other community organizations, and participated in breast cancer
walks, locks of love and a fundraiser for Leukemia.

Danielle received the community service scholarship sponsored by
Perfect Pharmacy and will be pursuing a career in nursing.
