Community Service Scholarship
Each year, at least one (1) scholarship of $500 will be awarded to a graduating high school senior who has demonstrated a commitment to improving Hicksville through participation in community service activities.
Additional scholarships may be awarded depending upon individual donations, fund raising and
sponsor participation in our scholarship program.
Applications for scholarships are available to students in the fall of their senior year. The Scholarship Awards Ceremony takes place during the General Member meeting in the month of June.
Eligibility for a scholarship award is based upon the following criteria:
- The student must be graduating from high school and have demonstrated a commitment to improving Hicksville through leadership and participation in community service activities.
- Preference will be given to students whose families are members of and live within the area of the HGCA.
- Student must be accepted into and attend a two or four year accredited college, university or trade school.
- No minimum grade point average is required, but a solid academic record is a plus.
- Financial need is not required.
- The student must complete and sign an application.
- A one page essay, double-spaced, explaining the student’s reasons for seeking this scholarship is a plus.
- A letter of recommendation from a teacher or community leader that can attest to the student’s community service is also a plus.
