Walker Provides Funding for the Purchase of
Speed Monitoring Devices near
Hicksville Middle School
With the opening of school this past week, Assemblyman Rob Walker of
Hicksville and Pam LaMonda-Jaffie, immediate past president of the Hicksville
Middle School PTSA unveil the installation of two speed monitoring devices on
Jerusalem Avenue in front of the middle school.  “The safety of our children is
one of the greatest priorities we must address as government officials and I was
committed from the start of this safety project to provide the needed funding
to see this installation through,” said Assemblyman Walker.

The middle school PTSA began this crusade last year to improve safety in the
area and reached out to the assemblyman who is also a resident of Hicksville. “I
want to commend Pam LaMonda-Jaffie and the board and members of the
PTSA for bringing this to my attention.  I truly believe when we work together
much can be accomplished,” noted Walker.

“In addition, I must thank County Legislator Ed Mangano for his efforts in
securing a crossing guard and increased police presence and also Supervisor
Venditto and Councilwoman Walker for their unwavering commitment to
addressing school safety,” Assemblyman Walker added.

"Thank you! It is about time NCPD has done something to enforce the speed limit on Jerusalem Ave.,
especially in the area of the school."
"Those signs are very good but I think it would  serve better if the one that is in front of the middle
school be moved before the crosswalk on 4th street.  How about putting it before the 7th St. crosswalk,
start the 25 mph (should be 20 mph in all school zones).  This crosswalk serves the little kids that go to
Lee Avenue.  The speed limit there is 40 mph, with just a school crossing sign.  This way the drivers
hopefully will slow down before they get in to the area where the kids cross.  Also I noticed that over by
Abbey Lane school on Gardiners Avenue in Levittown, they have similar signs which are much bigger.
The speed limit there is 20 mph.  The signs have the what the speed limit is and what speed you are
traveling.  These signs are easier to see and in my opinion deter those fast drivers to slow down.  If you
would like to talk about this, it would be my pleasure to meet with you.  I  do have some other issues
about the driving in this area that should be resolved before something serious happens to one of our
kids.  Hopefully you can help at with this.  Thanks for all that you do for our community .
"This is great news Henry!"
