“To improve the quality of life for the Hicksville community by encouraging
community awareness, participation, and civic pride.”
HGCA Mission Statement
Calpine Power Plant
This property is located at 939 So. Broadway
(on the Grumman property across from Lowe's)
This structure is highly visible by the large plume of condensation that occurs particularly on moist, humid days.  The plume is the after
product of untreated ground water being used to cool its outer core.
We are concerned with the content of that untreated ground water and its effects.

Bagga Property
This property is located at 594 So. Broadway
(at Gerald Avenue - site of the original T.J. Courtney’s Restaurant)
In 2005, public outcry against a hotel on this property was instrumental
in TOBAY denying permits for it's development.

In 2009 new plans were submitted to develop 11 apartments over retail stores.
The HGCA opposed the development of the apartments and the Town has denied the
application.

Downtown Revitalization Study
The Hicksville Downtown Revitalization Study started under the former County Executive Tom Suozzi with the "Cool Downtowns" Study.
This study provided for the Hicksville community to identify a "downtown" area
and subsequently present ideas as to how to develop that area.
Currently there are two organizations, Vision Long Island and Sustainable Long Island that are involved in the revitalization process.

Hooker Chemical/Ruco Polymer Site
This property (14.86 acres) is located on New South Road
(just north of the railroad tracks)
The Hooker Chemical/Ruco Polymer site is on the National Priorities List (NPL) of hazardous waste sites.
Plastics, polyesters and other synthetic polymers were manufactured on site from 1945 - 1982.
The on-site disposal of liquid waste contaminated the soil with hazardous waste (PCB's among others).
Currently the site is being cleaned up and the HGCA is monitoring the operation.

Jerusalem Avenue Study
The vehicular and pedestrian safety on Jerusalem Avenue has been a long standing issue with the HGCA.
At the request of the HGCA a traffic study was recently conducted and the results confirm that the roadway is an
accident prone location which also poses a threat to pedestrians.
The engineers report will be posted shortly.
New South Road Railroad Crossing
The deterioration of the railway sub-structure along with the high grade of the railroad tracks makes crossing
these tracks hazardous to both drivers and their vehicles.
The HGCA has been successful in getting the repairs to the tracks on schedule for September, 2012
and is now trying to coordinate the project with the town to correct the grading problem at the location.
