2018 Scholarship Awards

At the June 2018 general meeting, scholarships were awarded to 8 deserving students this year. After receiving their awards, each of the students gave a speech to thank the sponsors and the civic, as well as to note their intended area of study.

2013 Scholarship Award Recipients

Six (6) scholarships, $500 each, were awarded at the June 13th meeting. Ed Bossong, Scholarship Chair, announced that he was very proud to award the money and grateful as to how our Scholarship Program has grown over the past few years. Ed introduced the award recipient’s for this year:

  • Caitlyn Garger – Received the HGCA Service Scholarship.
  • Veronica Grebe – Received the HGCA Service Scholarship.
  • Harneet Gulati – Received the HGCA/Delco Plaza-Alvin Rush Memorial Service Scholarship
  • Christine Jao – Received the HGCA/Perillo Bros. Fuel Oil Co. Service Scholarship
  • Kiran Sharma – Received the HGCA/Perfect Pharmacy Service Scholarship
  • Pawandeep Singh – Received the HGCA/Met Foods Service Scholarship

2012 Scholarship Award Recipients

The recipients of the 4th Annual HGCA Scholarship Awards were Erin Montera, Paige Gilbert and Kanika Sharma.

Erin Montera is a graduate of Hicksville High School and attended our local Lee Avenue Elementary School.

Erin has given back to her community through her work with the Girl Scouts and as an ambassador to a Brownie Troop.  She has volunteered to help with the Lee Avenue PTA, was a music tutor to elementary students and has used her love of music to perform voluntarily at senior citizen events.  Erin was selected for 7 honor societies and has been on the Principal’s list for her entire high school career.

Erin’s career goals are undecided but she will definitely continue her study of music.

Paige Gilbert is a graduate of Hicksville High School and attended our local Lee Avenue Elementary School.

Paige has given back to the community through her countless hours with the Girl Scouts.  She is a Bronze Award recipient and is working on her Gold Award.  She also has been an active volunteer at her church in a number of positions.  Paige was selected for 5 honor societies and has been on the Principal’s list for her entire high school career.

Paige plans to pursue a career as a Physicians Assistant..

Kanika Sharma is a graduate of Hicksville High School.

Kanika has supported our community through her extensive volunteer work at Winthrop University Hospital, the Gregory Museum, the American Red Cross and the Sarah Grace Foundation.  Kanika was selected for 4 honor societies and has been on the Principal’s list her entire high school career.

Kanika received the community service scholarship award sponsored by Delco Plaza (in memoriam of Alvin Rush) and will be pursuing a career in nursing..

2011 Scholarship Award Recipients

The recipients of the 3rd Annual HGCA Scholarship Awards were Janice George, Joseph Marcus and Danielle Valentino.

Janice George is a graduate of Hicksville High School.

Janice has worked as an American Red Cross volunteer, a motivational leader at her church, and has supported many charitable organizations by volunteering at food drives, coat drives, and walks.

Janice will be pursuing a career in medicine and wants to be a physician so she can continue to provide needed services to all people.

Joseph Marcus is a graduate of Hicksville High School.

Joseph has spent over 2,000 hours with the Boy Scouts collecting food, working with the homeless and distributing flags on veteran’s graves.  The culmination of his efforts was his Eagle Scout project where he beautified the “Welcome to Hicksville” sign at Old Country Road and Levittown Parkway.

Joseph will be pursuing a career in graphic design, marketing and advertising.

danielle_valentinoDanielle Valentino

Danielle Valentino is a graduate of Hicksville High School.

Danielle has volunteered as a Special Olympics group leader, tutored middle and high school students, assisted with fund raising for the PTA and other community organizations, and participated in breast cancer walks, locks of love and a fundraiser for Leukemia.

Danielle received the community service scholarship sponsored by Perfect Pharmacy and will be pursuing a career in nursing.

2010 Scholarship Award Recipients

The recipients of the 2nd Annual HGCA Scholarship Awards were Nicholas Jao and James Harvey.

Nicholas Jao is a graduate of Hicksville High School.

Nicholas has devoted hundreds of hours to our community through the Boy Scouts of America, Natural Helpers, and Helping Hands.  You can even see Nicholas shoveling the walks for his elderly neighbors after a snowstorm!  He also enjoys sports as a member of the varsity soccer, bowling and tennis clubs.

Nicholas plans to continue his education and become a veterinarian.

james_harvey_webJames Harvey

James Harvey is a graduate of Hicksville High School.

Jame has volunteered extensively for the United Cerebral Palsy program, the Nassau Suffolk Autism Society of America, the Empowering Long Island’s Journey through Autism, and the Autism Speaks Walkathon.  His passion and countless hours devoted to improving the lives of children with special needs and his academic success in high school make James a worthy recipient of our scholarship.

James plans on becoming a Special Education teacher.
