“To improve the quality of life for the Hicksville Community by encouraging community awareness, participation, and civic pride.”
|
We have developed an open line of communication with the Town of Oyster Bay and elected officials at the County, State and Federal levels
|
We have done all this, and more, as a community of resident homeowners who care, who wish to leave our neighborhood a little bit better than we found it, and, to establish a community of which we can all be proud to call home!
|
Lowe's - We worked to prohibit the use of Bloomingdale Road and Willis
Court as their primary route of access for deliveries. This helped to
preserve the residential area along those roadways.
Bagga Property (formerly TJ Courtney’s) - We are working to ensure
that the future development of this property is something that community
will welcome and accept.
We are actively monitoring and reviewing community projects. Some of these
include the following:
CVS Pharmacies (South Oyster Bay Road & Stewart Avenue and 399
Jerusalem Avenue) - Presented restrictive covenants to the Town Board to
ensure that the development would not adversely affect local homeowners.
Miyako Hibachi & Sushi Bar - We monitored the development of the
exhaust system so that it would not adversely affect local homeowners.
Taco Bell - We worked closely with the owner of Delco Plaza to ensure a
beautiful and safe atmosphere for the new location. The waste disposal
system is "state of the art" thanks to Yum Brands, Inc. (owners of Taco Bell).
We prevented the Bauman Bus Corporation from moving into our neighborhood
and building a bus depot first proposed on the corner of Bloomingdale & South
Broadway and later proposed on New South Road just north east of the LIRR tracks.
We rallied in numbers to protest and voice our objections against the establishment
of a motel on South Broadway & Gerald Avenue (Bagga Property).
We worked with the NYS to reconstruct the median on So. Broadway between
Gerald Avenue and Somerset Avenue. This resulted in a more attractive landscaped
median and eliminated the previous eyesore.
We were either actively involved in or monitored the development of
the following community projects:
We have volunteers who are have attended CERT (Community Emergency
Response Team) training courses to better prepare our community in case of an
emergency. This is an ongoing project.
We established an Oil Consortium to secure better capped oil prices with a FREE
service contract.
We created, and now maintain, an "Adopt-A-Spot" at the corner of Broadway and
Lee Avenue.
We are working with the town to crack down on illegal housing within our
community and we have the department of Code Enforcement working with us to
deal with everyday quality of life issues which affect our property values.
Town Parking Garage - We are supportive of the Duffy Park Civic
Association and its effort to ensure that the reconstruction is community
friendly.
South Broadway Plaza (formerly Avnit Plaza) - We brought
attention to the variances from the Town Code during construction
Calpine Power Plant (on So. Broadway across from Lowe's) - We are
working with the EPA to analyze the air quality of the "plume" or mist that is
produced in that area during the cooling process.
Hooker Chemical/Ruco Polymer Site (on New South Road) - We are
working with the Federal EPA, the State DEC and the Hicksville Water
District to monitor the clean-up process currently underway.
We had the "Welcome To Hicksville" sign on South Broadway moved north to
the south triangle at South Oyster Bay Road and in a joint effort with Lowe's we were
able to beautify the site. The HGCA now maintains it as well.
We strive to help beautify our community. Our efforts include the following:
We maintain the landscaping at the Lee Avenue Triangle and the South
Broadway Triangle.
We are involved in spring and fall clean-up projects which include the East
Old Country Road Triangle (at South Oyster Bay Road)
We have petitioned the State to plant on the South Broadway median.
We are working with Assemblyman Rob Walker to plant trees along the
South Broadway median.
